Every good italian has its local “Torrefazione”, a coffee roasting shop where to choose a blend or sip a fresh espresso. Now, I have mine in Dublin: Two Fifty Square.
During my last year in Italy I lived in Albano, a small town near Rome in the charming area of Castelli Romani. Near my former home there was a small but awesome Torrefazione who spread a wonderful smell for all the neighborhood. It was a great pleasure to pop over there for a fresh ground cup and a little bag of the proper blend for my moka pot or espresso machine.
I missed that habit during the last two years in Dublin. So you can imagine my happiness when I discovered Two Fifty Square in Rathmines right in front of the windows of my gym.
From its location in 52 Williams Park this café has quickly become popular for families and for the students and teachers of the Dublin Conservatory and Dit.
As mentioned, the guys here, leaded by the owner Adam McMenamin, roast the beans they use everyday. You easily can get a look at the machines behind the counter.
So you can choose your blend for your cup or buy some to bring at home.
They, of course, prepare all the range of traditional stuff for a café (espresso, cappuccino, latte, ecc.). But to not betray their young and a bit hip attitude their menu also includes some fancy items that are so popular at the moment like V60, Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Aeropress.
When I try a new place, I usually order basic items. So I went for the cappuccino, Granola and an espresso.
The espresso was good, with a strong roasted taste and no acidity at all. I enjoyed it even if I usually prefer sweeter and smoother notes.
The cappuccino was simply awesome. And I say it again: “awesome”. (And definitely for this reason this place has become my favourite weekend brunch location.)
The granola with honey, yoghurt and berry compote was great and fullfilling. If they would even have some good sweet croissant, this would be the final match for a real Italian style breakfast (I did not have the chance to try them, yet. They were already sold out).
Icing on the cake: the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The place is easy accessible for disabled and buggies.
In the outside area your doggies are welcome, too.
